The new Notification Center will work identically across all supported iDevices, starting with the iPhone 3GS and ending with the second-generation iPad.

With the new iOS 5 launching this fall, Apple is throwing in a new way to receive notifications and alerts from all the applications that stay awake to receive updates, including third party software from the App Store.Currently, the iOS notifications system is cumbersome, intrusive, and very inefficient when it comes to quickly viewing an update. For instance, if you’re logged into Yahoo Messenger and you’re having a quick game of Angry Birds, the next time you receive a message your game will stop, likely when you’re close to nabbing three stars in that one impossible level you’ve been trying to beat for weeks. With iOS 5, you’ll get a non-intrusive alert at the top of the screen which not only doesn’t disturb your current activity, but also lets you see who it’s from and decide whether or not you want to view it then, or a bit later.“You get all kinds of notifications on your iOS device: new email, texts, friend requests, and more. With Notification Center, you can keep track of them all in one convenient location,” Apple explains.“Just swipe down from the top of any screen to enter Notification Center. Choose which notifications you want to see. Even see a stock ticker and the current weather.”
“New notifications appear briefly at the top of your screen, without interrupting what you’re doing. And the Lock screen displays notifications so you can act on them with just a swipe,” Apple adds, touting Notification Center as being “the best way to stay on top of your life’s breaking news.”It’s likely that the new notifications system is the idea of a certain Peter Hajas who was recently hired as an intern at Apple.Join us soon for a closer look at other iOS 5 features, or skim through the related links below for more iOS 5 coverage.
