The company shined its spotlight more on the new Resident Evil title, however, as it's a pretty big departure from the classic mechanics of the company's long-running franchise.
Instead of the usual survival horror gameplay, Operation Raccoon City delivers a squad-based experience and is currently being developed by Slant Six Games in collaboration with Capcom itself.
"Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe," Capcom said about the title.
"Not only does this setting provide a rich backdrop to the action but it fosters a unique and thrilling triple-threat battle scenario for the game modes. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players compete against their team’s opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe. The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third person shooters."
The action of the game takes place after the Raccoon City disaster, with players taking on the roles of soldiers hired by the evil Umbrella Corporation that need to eliminate any evidence against the pharmaceutical company before the government seizes it, while eliminating the remaining zombies or monsters that are still on the streets of the deserted city.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City also offers players the chance to mess up the continuity of the series, as they can opt to eliminate characters like Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield, which were instrumental in exposing Umbrella after the Raccoon City disaster.
