Electronic Arts presented quite a lot of games during its E3 2011 conference, but most fans eagerly awaited some details about Star Wars: The Old Republic, the upcoming MMORPG that is set to appear from developer BioWare.
The company, sadly, didn't have lots of details to share, but it did bring two very impressive cinematic trailers, depicting not just the main features of the future online role-playing game, but also the actual introduction of the title.BioWare, no doubt with the help of LucasArts, created some extremely impressive videos for The Old Republic up until now, and these make no exception. As you can imagine, these trailers quickly prompted an impressive reaction from the legions of Star Wars fans, who are eagerly awaiting at least a release date for the game.Sadly, Electronic Arts can't commit to a launch date just yet, as its CEO, John Riccitiello, explained to CVG why it would be extremely bad for the game to establish a release period, largely because of two major reasons, including its competitors, like Blizzard with its massively popular World of Warcraft."One, the competitive marketplace. Putting a window out there creates a window of opportunity for our principal competitor to put out an expansion pack or an ad campaign etcetera around out launch window. Bad move at this point in time."Second, you do a beta for a reason. You intend to learn something. If you have the answer before you ask the question you're not listening. We intend, [BioWare founders] Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk and [EA Games Label president] Frank Gibeau, to listen to their consumers."Riccitiello emphasized that EA has established a solid plan around Star Wars: The Old Republic, and that a release date will be shared with fans when the timing is just right. As of right now, the game may appear later this year, but EA doesn't rule out the possibility of pushing back the release into 2012.Until then, more trailers like the ones below are certain to be released in order to keep the hype going.
