During this year's E3 2011 press conference, Insomniac Games, together with its brand new publishing partner, Electronic Arts, presented the studio's first new franchise that won't be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
Entitled Overstrike, the new project has received a very interesting trailer, which highlights that even if it has a realistic feel, just like Insomniac’s Resistance series, it keeps the trademark humor seen in other franchises like Ratchet & Clank. The title borrows a bit more from the aforementioned series, as it's being developed as a four-player cooperative action title, just like the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, which will appear for the PlayStation 3 later this year."Combining Insomniac’s knack for imaginative weaponry with immersive and witty storytelling, Overstrike is a four-player cooperative action game featuring a team of elite agents called Overstrike 9," EA said. "Comprised of an ex-mercenary, a lifelong thief, a gifted young scientist and a decorated detective, the members of Overstrike 9 are considered outcasts within their own organization, but are the best team suited to stop a global terrorist group from attempting to wipe out humankind."The Overstrike 9 team works together and takes advantage of each other's unique abilities, while using an arsenal of special gadgets, in order to infiltrate, neutralize or destroy enemy strongholds.“Overstrike presents a unique blend of features that have long been a part of the Insomniac DNA: high powered gadgets, action-heavy gameplay, memorable characters in a deep and mysterious universe and of course a touch of humor,” said Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games. “And since this is our first multiplatform game, we’re especially excited to introduce ourselves to a new audience – one which may not have experienced our previous games.”Overstrike will be published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.Until more details surface about this new game, including a release date, check out the trailer for the Overstrike below.
